Entrepreneurship has frequently been the subject of research during the last three decades. Politicians also frequently mention entrepreneurs in discussions about the economy. This is because the promotion of entrepreneurship is not only necessary for a healthy economy but also critical for sustaining prosperity, creating new jobs and reducing unemployment. Countries having a greater increase in entrepreneurship rates tended to have larger subsequent decreases in unemployment rates. New entrepreneurial initiatives raise competitive pressure, pushing other firms to react by improving efficiency or introducing innovation. Entrepreneurial activity increases the competitive strength of an economy as a whole. *** Doç.
